Archaeological Ensemble Dolmens of Antequera


Antequera is 45 kilometers from Malaga in the direction of Seville.

Account among other very interesting things, with an archaeological site that is in very good conservation, and with excellent facilities.

The dolmens of the set are formed by three dolmens, two are within the set and another not far from there, but worth visiting.

The facilities are clean and very well preserved.

The environment has excellent views and the atmosphere is relaxed.

You have to climb a small hill with a well prepared path to reach the first dolmen, Vieira

Scallop Dolmen

It is the smallest dolmen of the three, it is very clean and well preserved.

Its entrance is oriented to the EAST at sunrise and in a way that allows the entry of solar rays into the equinoxes.

It has the entrance, a passage and a funeral chamber in the background, no bones were found but a funerary trousseau.

Dolmen of Menga

It is the largest dolmen of the three, in fact it is one of the largest megaliths found in Europe and of great archaeological value.

It is a wide passage, with stone of several tons.

Apparently its function was more ritual than funeral, although it had different uses by the inhabitants of the different times.

Havea well at the end of the passage, with a wide mouth and almost 20 meters deep and has 4 meters of water at the bottom.
